Overview
The SEND unit is a dedicated building based within Moorthorpe Primary School. The unit provides a more specialised and focussed educational environment for pupils who needs are more complex and can not be fully met within the mainstream classroom/school setting. The SEND unit offers specialist support and works in partnership with wider professionals to access specific advice and training in order to meet learners complex learning, sensory, emotional and medical needs.
Pupils may access a personalised curriculum that is appropriately differentiated to ensure that learning is meaningful, achievable and appropriately challenging.
The SEND unit provides smaller class sizes and more intensive, focussed support and staffed by specialist support staff.
Curriculum
We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the complex needs of learners in order to build up children’s confidence, embed key skills to prepare children for real-life and including the most relevant aspects of the National Curriculum. The development of social skills and communication skills are a key component to learners becoming active citizens within the school and wider .
The curriculum is flexible and responsive to the needs of each child. Timetables are reviewed regularly and adapted to meet the changing needs of learners to ensure they are progressing at a pace appropriate to them.
Admissions
Admissions to the Inclusion Resource are managed via Wakefield Local Authority, Special Educational Needs Assessment Review Team in consultation with Moorthorpe Primary School and WISENDSS management team. Visits to the Inclusion Resource are welcome and can be arranged by contacting the school to arrange an appointment.
