Pupil Premium Information 2025/26

  • We currently have 96 children on the PP register which is 44% of our pupils.
  • Mrs Doyle is our Pupil Premium Champion.

At Moorthorpe Primary School with Inclusion Resource we have high aspirations and ambitions for all of our pupils and we believe that no child should be left behind. We strongly believe that it is not about where you come from but your passion and thirst for knowledge, and your dedication and commitment to learning that make the difference between success and failure, and we are determined to ensure that our pupils are given every chance to realise and reach their full potential.

The Pupil Premium is a Government initiative that targets extra money at pupils from deprived backgrounds, which research shows underachieve compared to their peers.

The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers

The Government have used pupils entitled to Free School meals as an indicator for deprivation, and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per pupil, based on the number of pupils eligible for Free School meals.  The grant per eligible primary-aged pupil is £1515 for the financial year 2025-2026.
Looked after or the children of armed service personnel are also eligible for this increased funding. This service premium (for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces) is designed to address the emotional and social well-being of these pupils. Service Premium pupils are eligible for £350 of funding but are not deemed to be ‘disadvantaged’.

The Government are not dictating how schools should spend this money, but are clear that schools will need to employ the strategies that they know will support these pupils to increase their attainment, and ‘close the gap’ between their attainment and the attainment of other pupils.

Guidance suggests that PP spending should be formed as part of a 3 year strategy whereby schools can ensure long term effects and a sustained approach to their implemented plans through tracking of data, scrutiny of application and impact on pupils.

Many of our key areas for development will impact a large number of our children, not just those who are entitled to PP.

We want all our pupils to develop a love of learning, aim high and overcome external barriers to learning such as socio-economic factors which could affect their long-term potential in future endeavours.

At Moorthorpe, we recognise that not all pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium are underachieving, whilst there are also pupils who are underachieving and not eligible for Pupil Premium. We plan, for all individuals, adapt and adjust teaching and learning where applicable and prepare for any area where underperformance is evident. The funding will be used to ‘diminish the difference’ for those underachieving and widen opportunities for those pupils who might be achieving as expected.

Further information about Pupil Premium Funding can be found in our Pupil Premium Policy or Strategy document.
